Welcome to Experience Manufacturing

It’s with great excitement that I welcome you to the first edition of Experience Manufacturing, a quarterly magazine and website for engineers and designers who rely on Autodesk’s range of manufacturing products to get their designs into manufacture.
Over the coming years we will aim to provide you with everything you need to make the best use of Autodesk’s software solutions, from tweaking your workstation for optimal 3D performance, to adopting a full ‘Digital Prototyping’ methodology across your business. We will of course also be covering 2D Mechanical draughting, together with basic issues such as training, subscription, plotting and estimating the return on your investment.
It’s an exciting time to launch a Manufacturing technology magazine, as Autodesk has developed and acquired many technologies including dynamic modelling, finite element analysis and high-end real-time rendering, to name but a few. With the acquisition of additional development resources in China, Autodesk also has plans to further expand its in-house capability to produce powerful engineering applications, for areas such as mould design and factory layout. All this activity has lead to an explosion in the number of products that are designed to work with AutoCAD and Inventor, as the company rapidly broadens the range and scope of its portfolio. So there’s plenty of meat for our industry experts to get their teeth into!!
Before embarking on creating ‘Experience Manufacturing’, the editorial team ran a series of extensive surveys of Autodesk’s customer-base to find out what you most wanted to read about. We’ve analysed the results and prioritised our content based on this valuable feedback. In return we will have plenty of real-world case studies, tips and tricks, reviews and strategy together with an expanded view of what you can do with your data ‘outside of the box’ with today’s cutting edge rapid prototyping technologies.
Our first edition comes out hot on the heels of the mass-launch of Autodesk’s 2009 range of products so we have been totally spoilt for choice as to which products to review! There’s a new slick interface for AutoCAD, together with an all-new AutoCAD Mechanical and Inventor. We have a focus on CAM, with a dedicated NC solution for Inventor, rendering with Alias and Inventor Studio together with the latest batch of workstations specifically recomndeded for Inventor. You also have a chance to win a brand new 3D motion controller from 3Dconnexion!
