Autodesk Labs has updated its 2D to 3D tool for Inventor
Inventor users can save valuable time creating 3D models of parts that were designed in 2D with a new add-in utility - the 2D to 3D Tool, which streamlines the preparation of 2D views by automatically rotating drawing views onto orthogonal sketches.
Typically, reconstructing geometry involves the use of Extrude and Revolve features and this is most easily accomplished if the projected views are aligned on orthogonal planes. The new 2D to 3D Tool provides operations that perform the rotation and alignment in a series of simple steps reducing the time required to recreate the 3D model.
