Autodesk Labs turned green this month with the introduction of The Sustainable Materials Assistant for Autodesk Inventor.

The tool has been developed to aid engineers and designers in making responsible material choices that can reduce their design’s environmental impact.

The Sustainable Materials Assistant adds data fields for all the materials that are included in Inventor’s materials library. These can be populated with information about the Toxicity, Regulatory compliance, Recyclability, and Carbon Footprint of any of these materials. Accessible from Inventor’s Bill of Materials Editor, the Sustainability Report analyses and aggregates the sustainability properties based on the materials and components that comprise a given design option. A Sustainability Report can then be output easily to communicate the sustainability of the design.

Autodesk is particularly eager to get feedback on this utility. Download the utility and direct feedback to labs.iv.sustainable@autodesk.com.
